Lost Petals – photohaiku for the brokenhearted – Daciana Lipai

Lost Petals - phototohaiku for the brokenhearted

Lost Petals – photohaiku for the brokenhearted, is a beautiful book, presented in a combination of haiku form poetry, with black and white mountain landscape fine art photographs. A visual pathway for the brokenhearted, for those who search resilience after losing someone dear, trying to give this chaos of fear and grief a meaning, comes as an encouragement to find a deeper meaning and to calm the restless mind. In these dark dark times, we have to believe that we will find a bigger purpose than ourselves and our lives.

By documenting her journey through grief, the author wants to offer a word of comfort and encouragement for anyone who lost someone dear.

Lost Petals Book Presentation

The past year brought a lot of changes in everyone’s life, affecting all of us in one way or another, leaving a lot of wounds in everyone’s body, soul, or mind. As the isolation, the silence, and the distance are growing, the words become heavier and heavier to carry. An entire spectrum of emotions that rules our minds, in the governing chaos of our lives, where the grief, fear, and despair grows.

In every dark moment, we have to search for the love inside. We have to remind ourselves relentlessly of the infinite love that lies in every one of us. This will be the source of courage to get over the grief and fear.

When the 2020 pandemic started I was far away from home, in a little Spanish mountain town, and I had to remain in a small flat during the imposed quarantine. I’ve documented each day of the lockdown in March. From my window, I could see in the distance the mountain peaks, so I could capture the snowstorms in the mountain landscape view, using a telephoto lens.

Each day I’ve written a haiku journaling how I’ve felt.

By the time the quarantine was over, I had 40 photos of the mountains combined with haikus and I already started to work on the book. But something was missing. I could feel the book wasn’t complete, truthful, or hopeful. So I’ve postponed the launch of the book.

One year later, in March, I was already back home in Romania but I’ve lost a very close friend, an event that turned my life upside down. After that event, I could hear more and more, friends and acquaintances, telling me that they’ve lost someone. Nothing we could do or say could change the facts, but at least we could do is to think of them, and cherish their memory.

This is the reason why I’ve completed and finished the photohaiku book, trying to add a little hope and a word of light, in this dark dark world.

My book is dedicated to the memory of all the lost lives during the pandemic. I hope it brings a word of comfort to those who have lost them.
