Green Lies ~ Dream Away ~ Fine Art Photography Series

On

If you build a world with conviction, it becomes reality. If you are using escapism from fear and grief, it will become your truth, your story.

If you tell a lie long enough you begin to believe it, it becomes your life.

I created this image back in the summer but I simply couldn’t convince myself to edit it. It was one of the first images I created for the series Dream Away (you can read about the beginning of the project here), but at that time didn’t exactly know where the project was going, I just wanted to create. By myself. For myself.

I think this is one of the most difficult self-portraits I did because I had to pose and tie myself with the ivy, at the same time, trying to pay attention to every detail while I was pressing the shutter. For a long time, I was hesitant to publish it, for many reasons, but mainly fear, in different forms.

Now, it is one of my favorites from DREAM AWAY series for what it represents. The reality feels we are just realizing that we have built our own perfect invisible prison from which we don’t want to escape. It feels so safe in so many ways. We have built a world of lies, just so we can believe in security, safety, and peace. So comfortable we blend in. When the truth is, the reality is no more than my build-up green dreams.
